The Art of Community
by Charles H. Vogl
When I did a call to Facebook friends for books on
“community” for the class I am teaching in the fall, I didn’t expect to find
such a great book in The Art of Community
by Charles Vogl. He learned about community through the process of forming one
as a PhD student at Yale. Vogl draws
upon the rich history of the various religious heritages to illustrate his
seven principles of community. The book is easy to read and can help any
community organizer, religious leader, or even a student affairs
professional. Vogl, who never felt he
experienced true community before, learns how to do it, and then goes on to
write about it. So accessible and a real
treat for anyone who needs to train RAs in the coming month for building
community. Thanks to Elizabeth Cox for
sending the recommendation! I’ll be
using the book for class in the fall.
