If you need a precept to live by 365 days a year, go and get
RJ Palacio’s 365 Days of Wonder. The book is a continuation of Wonder, well in a way. The teacher character, Mr. Browne, shares how he taught his fifth grade
with precepts and asked each graduating fifth grader to send one to him over
the summer. After each month’s precepts
(one for each day), he would share some of the emails he received from the
students. Besides having a new precept
to live by each day, a secret from the book Wonder
is exposed! (If you want to know more
about the book Wonder, check out
October 10, 2014 entry on this blog)
There are so many great quotes of the day to live by (some are famous
quotes and some from the students who responded to his summer requests), it
would be hard for me to capture their essence, but I will provide a few that I
liked best:
Laughter is sunshine; it chases winter from the human face –
Victor Hugo
Fate doesn’t decide, you do – Dominic
Every time the sun rises, a new hope begins – Jack
Superheroes are made but heroes are born – Antonio
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters
compared to what lies within us – Henry Stanley Haskins (Love that one!)
You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can be
grateful because thorn bushes have roses – Ziggy
Follow your dreams, It may be a long journey, but the path
is right in front of you
Pretty inspirational quotes, huh? A great book, especially if you realize how
important kindness is for those who need it most… everyone you interact with
today, tomorrow and the day after.
